During 3rd quarter, art students were given a free choice project. Students were to focus on picking a project that interested them in subject matter and to try a new medium or experiment further with one. 7th and 8th grade chose from a self portrait, abstract painting, dream house drawing or masterpiece in the style of a famous artist. I chose this artist of the week for his commitment to his project and exploration of material he used. He made a landscape painting in the style of Bob Ross. Jeilien used problem solving skills in creating the mountains and great effort was put into making it, which you can see in the layers of paint and color choices. Great job!
Congratulations to our Gentleman of the Week - Geovanny L., 6th Grade
Congratulations to our Artist of the Week - Geovanny L., 6th Grade
In the 6th grade, we have been working on identity self-portraits. Students have been introduced to the work of Frida Kahlo, who emphasized her work on a strong reflection of self-identity. Students worked from graphic organizers, mapping out their identities which their interests, cultural backgrounds, personalities, places they like to go, etc. Geovanny worked skillfully on his profile self-portrait carefully focusing on the proportions of the face. He did a terrific job of drawing a well-balanced composition with an interesting assortment of colorful personal images in the background. Well done Geo!
